Find my book pen pal
by Bookety Book BooksPlease do not use local pick up to purchase this item or purchase it with any other books or additional shipping fees will apply
We all know that a big part of the joy in reading is sharing a good book with a friend and so we want to help bring bookish pals together all over Aotearoa. Sound like a bit of you? Register yourself online, answer the questionnaire, receive your pen pal match, grab a book recommendation you wish to pass on, include a little letter about why you chose the book and receive a book back!
Once you register you will then fill out this questionnaire and we ask that you do so asap. Everyone who has registered will then be matched with someone with similar tastes. You will then receive your pen pal match via email which will include a prepaid postage sticker to send your book and letter to. We ask that you choose a book that you have enjoyed and are ready to give to a new home, and include a letter (there are some writing prompts further on in this post) to your pen pal including why you enjoyed the book you are sending on. Your parcel can then be dropped at any post office, or book your pick up online with NZPost. All books must be sent by the end of February and you must be based in Aotearoa to participate.
There is a small admin fee of $6 to be matched with your pen pal + shipping costs at the checkout. Local pick up is not available for this product.
Key dates:
16th February: Last date to register and complete your questionnaire
21st February: Receive your pen pal match
28th February: All books must be sent to pen pals
Letters are so cute, but you might not have written one since passing letters in the corridors to your best friend consumed most your year 9 high school days, the contents of which would make you die inside a little if you were to read it today (trust me, I still have all these letters). Below are some subject prompts you can talk to that doesn’t include talking about boys or drawing pictures of cats:
1. Why have you chosen the book you have included in the book swap?
2. What were your favourite books to read as a kid?
3. What do you love about reading?
4. Are you a part of book club?
5. What books have you recently read and loved?
6. By all means draw a cat if you are so inclined
The only compulsory question to include in your letter is the first in the list, the rest are just suggestions if you wished to write more.
While we are organising this as a one-off fun exercise to celebrate the long life of a good book, and the joy in sharing that with others, our genuine hope is to unite some bookish pals who might not have meet otherwise. But most of all we hope this brings each and every one of you who participates a moment of joy.
