Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams
Queenie was such an unexpected read for me, in the best way. At first it felt like a more modern Bridget Jones but as the story develops I soon realised it was much, much more. This book follows Queenie who is losing herself after a break up and we read through as her life begins to unravel. I was hooked, at no point was I sure on where the novel was going to go.
This book is a brilliant insight into race, privilege and mental health. A very well deserved Long List place holder for the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2020 and winner of the Book of the Year at the British Book Awards 2020.
