Normal People is Sally Rooneys heavily acclaimed second novel. This coming of age novel follows the relationship between Marianne and Connell as they transition from high school through to university.
Marianne and Connell's complicated chemistry is addictive and you’re never quite sure where it is going to go, it is often at times frustrating but nonetheless another brilliant play on power dynamics from Rooney, not only with in the relationship of Marianne and Connell but within their inner circles of friends and family. This book has won so many awards I won’t bother to list them, and has just been released as a TV series, which so brilliantly echoes the voice of the book which so often is missed with the change of media. I recommend picking up the novel before diving into the show.
